Why HPED?
Mens sana in corpore sano. . . A sound mind in a healthy body.
Physical Education as part of the American liberal arts or general education curriculum dates back to the late 1800’s. Never in our nation’s history has there been a more important time to help students adopt patterns of healthy, active living.

Recent studies show that 57% and 61% of college males and females respectively do not meet the suggested level of weekly physical activity (USDHHS, 2000). To provide the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to create a well balanced, healthy lifestyle, Emory College GER’s include:
1. Health Education
2. One Principles of Physical Fitness course
3. Two HPED electives
